In June 2019, Hallcon Corporation tasked me with managing branding for their new San Jose location, showcasing their electric vehicle innovations. Despite being 1,850 miles away, I oversaw murals, signage, and framed photos remotely from Kansas. Challenges included accurate measurements and a tight two-month deadline. The project involved:
Brand Mural Installation: Complex murals adorned the office entry and conference room. As the designs resembled existing ones, I compared my Illustrator files with in-person murals. Despite textured walls, we avoided costly skim coating, instead opting for a careful installation process guided by vendor-provided test sample photos.
Maintenance Area Murals: Larger murals in the bus garage featured brand messages and logos. Precision was crucial due to obstacles like utility boxes. Working with local vendors, I ensured accurate measurements and proper placement.
Logo Signage: Simple window and building signage went smoothly. The standout was a wooden sign, which required coordination with landscape changes, utility compliance, and legal adherence.
Framed Artwork Installation: Over 30 framed photos of electric vehicles were strategically placed throughout the office. This time-intensive task involved collaborating with San Jose photographers and Hallcon employees. The approved photos were printed in Kansas City, framed at different shops, and strategically hung based on detailed measurements.
In conclusion, this large-scale mural design venture marked my first attempt. Despite the distance, the project succeeded thanks to collaboration with skilled vendors in both San Jose and Kansas City. Coordination and daily interaction with California vendors were pivotal. The outcome transformed an empty office into a vibrant Hallcon branded space, illustrating the dedication of everyone involved.
